Note to parents who are unfamiliar with chess notation. Each move in chess notation is designated in two parts: Part 1 the piece being moved and Part 2 the location where the piece is going. Upper case letters always indicates the piece to be moved. Lower case letters always indicates the location to which it is moved. For example pieces are designated by: K = King Q = Queen R = Rook B = Bishop and N = Knights (N is used to not be confused with the King) P = Pawn (It is the custom that most players do NOT write "P" unless it is capturing. They only write the location). The locations are designate by an 8 x 8 grid. along the bottom are letters a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, They are all lower case. along the side from bottom to top are numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. The White pieces are set up by the one, the Black by the eight. Example of actual moves: The first few moves of a chess game might be written as follows: 1.e4, e5, (not 1.Pe4, Pe5, dropping the P is the custom.) 2.Nf3, Nc6, 3.Bc4, Nf6 etc...
